Significant LaptopAfter having been impressed with the ASUS EeePC 901 for the last year, I unambiguous to buy a bigger ASUS laptop as a gift for one of my kids. I ended up getting the F80Q-X2AM because it's bigger than a netbook but it's not Non-Standard real big. The 14.1 inch screen and full sized keyboard are just what I was looking for. This laptop has everything you could call for: DVD player, webcam, big hard drive, lots of RAM, memory be unsecretive reader, wireless network card, bluetooth, decent vehicle case. Good stuff. On top of that, the 2-year warranty, accidental check compensation protection, and spill-proof keyboard are really nice, exceptionally for a laptop going to a young kid.
The only thing I don't like about this laptop is the operating system. Windows Vista is for the natural world, and I'm not just saying that. I've had bad experiences with Vista in the past, so I'm biased negatively with admiration to Vista. On the other hand, I used to work at Microsoft and I like the crowd a lot. But when it takes 3 hours to get connected to a wireless network, you know you're using a crummy operating sytem. Specifically, I encountered the flagitious "unidentified network" problem which millions of others have likely experienced over the last pair of years with Vista. Although there's seemingly no sure fire way to fix the problem, 3 hours of resolution paid off, and now the computer can connect to wireless networks (knocking on wood). So, I'm looking well-developed to the free Windows 7 upgrade being offered with this unit.
The initial Vista startup/sting time was a little slow - I thought there was a problem after a couple of minutes of nothing phenomenon on the screen, but it all worked out fine - and the automatic ASUS application installation very likely took 10 or 15 minutes.
So far I really like the cabal and I'm impressed with ASUS units in general.
The September 2009 rebate on this tool made it a steal. I ended up buying another one for work as a result. I hope I in actuality get the rebates!
ASUS F80Q Winning & Powerful
Purchased the ASUS F80Q-X2AM 14.1 inch laptop and have found it to be one friendly and powerful laptop. Fast, reliable and easy connectivity. Leaves my desktop in the smoke. Elevated product at a great price ($614.70).
Fit performance - bad speakers
A strong, well constructed notebook that provides some useful new features. So far it has performed well and runs my most exigent applications with no problems. I particularly like the compactness of the 14.1 inch splash and the keyboard has an excellent feel to it. Things I don't like are the poor orator sound quality and positioning, the highly reflective display, the Vista consumer interface, and the lack of a true display mechanical latch. It would have been over-nice to have had a CF memory card reader. This product comes from Amazon with a untie upgrade to Windows 7, a nice carry case and a useable visual mouse.
