You Get What You Pay ForI bought this laptop because it was tacky($350) and I figured the quality would be decent because it was an HP/Compaq. My poor rating is based on several factors 1. The incipient quality of the laptop, and 2. Dealing with HP's tech support. Within the 1st 6 months of owning this pc, I began having problems with my power adaptor. The line wasn't fitting snugly into the side port, so the battery wasn't charging. I called HP and they gave me instructions on sending the laptop to their put back in facility. They informed me that the process would take more than a week, so I wasn't too happy about that, but it had to be done. I sent off the laptop, they "attached" it and sent it back.
Upon powering up my laptop, I quickly realized that they did not fix the problem. I still had the same climax, and they must have either not fixed it and sent it back, or did not test their repair. So, I called again, went through the same deal with and sent it back. On the 2nd attempt, the issue was "fixed", but I am still having intermittent problems. HP had my laptop for almost 3 weeks, and I am still not on cloud nine with their results. I use this computer for work and can no longer afford to keep sending it off and waiting for 7-10 for them to try and fix the question major.
I called a friend who works for HP and she told me that the "Compaq" label is used on tatty computers that are usually sold to Asian markets. The only thing I was opportune with regarding this laptop is the price, but in retrospect, I would have rather paid a little more and bought a separate brand. I will never buy anything from HP again!

I would have prone this a five but it is suppose to be a new item and it came with scrathes,not a bad buy.
Superlative for household use
My first laptop,and I couldn't be more gratified.Fast downloads and large screen are two features that I like.I use the AC rope ,so the short battery life (2hrs) isn't a factor for me.Good price,grand value for the money!Full size keyboard as well.
Never another HP merchandise
I purchased two Compaq laptops for Christmas 2008. Four months into using my laptop, the movies spontaneously cracked. I hardly took it anywhere and when I did I used a heavy respect carry case. HP/Compaq took it into consideration for repair, at my expense. $429 to supplant the screen, I opted out. The second pc has a glitch where the screen has to be repositioned every 30 minutes or so when it goes all fair-skinned.
After fighting HP on the first pc I have no will to do so on the second. They don't live up to the "Built to Last" sticker on the keyboard. HP does not exist up to their warranty. My 16 family members have agreed to never by HP/Compaq products ever again.
Marvy budget laptop
Pros:
This is a very, very avail computer for the price. I bought mine factory direct and added a dual heart processor, and the performance is great. It is relatively light. The hard disk carry speed is as good as my older desktop which is a higher RPM drive. It has a separate nvidia graphics card (256mb) a separate key pad. It has a very nice, big, widescreen. And I got all this for less than $400!!! Can't be crush.
Cons:
Look at buying an upgraded battery. Glossy shroud and touch pad collect enough fingerprints to convict you in any court. :) Diet bendy design.
