    compaqs are bad
Had a CQ60 computer for a narrow-minded over a year and the battery gets to 40% and the computer dies. Warranty expired 2 weeks ago and HP can't steal me. I went online to buy a new battery and surprise, everyone says the battery sucks. My preceding Compaq, the AC adapter died after 2 weeks and HP sent a replacement. My brother's Compaq, the battery-operated died after a year and he bought a new one after his wireless card died too. This is the last Compaq I buy ever.

it affordable, certain, stylish..........i can go on an on just buy it. i havednt had 1 prob yet its almost been 1 yr.
    Benign notebook for price
I in fact bought this laptop for $373 which is incredible.

    PROS:
    Microphone
    Substantial Screen
Free Upgrade to Windows 7 (I upgraded it and it works quite)
    Touchpad
    Good Speed
    Free Trials- Microsoft Aegis, Norton

    Cons:
    No Webcam
1.5 hour battery (which really sucks)
Keyboard is a bit close due to the 10 key.

Overall this notebook is a pretty good. However the battery in actuality is horrible. But that may change based on the brightness, usage and such. If you do upgrade to Windows 7 with impost installation, the scrolling on the touch pad is gone. :|
It doesn't have a webcam but to microphone is grievous. For this price, this laptop is a winner!
    Never another HP effect
I purchased two Compaq laptops for Christmas 2008. Four months into using my laptop, the strainer spontaneously cracked. I hardly took it anywhere and when I did I used a heavy bit carry case. HP/Compaq took it into consideration for repair, at my expense. $429 to substitute for the screen, I opted out. The second pc has a glitch where the screen has to be repositioned every 30 minutes or so when it goes all milk-white.
After fighting HP on the first pc I have no will to do so on the second. They don't live up to the "Built to Last" sticker on the keyboard. HP does not flaming up to their warranty. My 16 family members have agreed to never by HP/Compaq products ever again.

DVD crusade broken after 2 weeks of purchase
I bought this 420US ideal in this August. The DVD drive failed to read and burn after 2 weeks of obtain. I called the customer service and have it replaced in the September. However, the new one failed to squander and read CD again in another one month. DVD reading is OK. When HP scheduled the computer back to the repair center in TX, the computer screen was smashed by FedEX and HP refused to replace the screen, even though they paid for the shipping and have the laptop insured. HP said it is me who destitute the LCD and sent back for repair. what??? Another word, you have to prepare at least 1hr to finish the call with HP's chap service. Now I have a broken screen and broken DVD drive 3-month Compaq siting on for deck that I can do nothing with it. Hope you guy would not have the bad experience but I would never buy a compaq product EVER.

which laptop is better for a college freshman? dell or hp compaq?

Q: i'm looking at affordable laptops because i'm starting college in the fall and i need one that's going to last me at least the four years that i'll be in school. these are two that i've been looking at.

    - Dell Inspiron 1545
    - HP COMPAQ PRESARIO CQ60-420US

    which one would you reccomend?

A: in my life of repair computers never try "compaq, toshiba and acer" those brands are really bad, and what i mean bad is bad quality in their hardware (really cheap asian hardware), always try good support computers like dell (just call them if you have a problem and they will solve it) and also Sony is good(but expencive)

im my personal opinion Dell is the brand for college student, try the inspiron is cheap and you can make the one you need
