Momentary term fix
The adapter worked interesting for about two weeks and now has a short in the cable somewhere. It works only half the time. Miserly fix but just that cheap!!!! Not worth the money.

Lasted ONE week...
After about one week of use, I heard crackling sounds, smelled smoke and it then died. Don't be acquainted with if there is something wrong with my computer to cause it, but my actual Dell cord lasted 3 years. It only had issues due to me having it crinkled in a bad arrangement while trying to find a way to keep the plug in the backend of the computer (good thing we're not reviewing the computer itself)!!

Works, but not like a Dell
The pony is compatible with my Dell Inspiron. It charges. There are two problems. One is when I use the computer while plugged into this charger. The charger gets bloody hot. I have to set the charger on something solid. Not on a couch or covers. It gets so hot, I could get burned stirring it. One time I smelled something burning and noticed it was on top of my quilt, and was emitting a odour of burning fabric. combined with a burning electrical odor. Intimidating! The second problem is when the battery power in the computer is down. If I use the computer while charging, the computer blinks on and off. I justifiable have to close it, let the charge get to 100%, then I can use it. I don't have these problems with the Dell charger that came with it. But after a while the rope gets worn. I will pay extra for the right charger next time. I will keep using it, but very purposefully.
Update: June 2010. The chargers are still working, but I am still having the same problems with them. I'm on here to discipline a Dell charger. I hope that one works better. I am replacing this because it gets so hot I am extraordinarily afraid it will start a fire. It only takes an hour to get so hot I smell burning.

Computer Guy
I received the first one it worked for one assess. It charged the second battery 1/2 way and quit.I called Amazon and they offered my resources back or another one.I took another one and that one didn't charge at all.I have sent both back waiting to be refunded my flush. If you want a charger I won't tell you where to go but don't by this one.
Licentious Delivery, Works but doesn't charge
Very Permanent ='pretty damned quick' Delivery.
Works well on my Inspiron but does not Charge the Battery like most other almost identical cheap adapters, although this one is marked as higher voltage output and 90W but still not charging.
The line length is okay. Longer than my previous one.
Working for 2 weeks now and still no issues.

Profitable product, but cord is shorter than orginal Dell charger
only squawk: cord is shorter than the original one that came with my Dell. Otherwise, product is durable.
Fantastic!
Worked much advantage than a much more expensive replacement I purchased from a local retailer. The one from the local worked for a day, then resign on me. This one is still going strong, and I'm buying another!

Laptop mount
Not much to say; it charges and runs the laptop. It isn't a Dell part, but it works.
Block not wide enough
Unequivocally disappointed!!! I bought two of these, each having the same problem - the distance between the prongs was not widespread enough to accommodate a standard outlet. I don't know what "standard" they were aiming for, but it did not be at several of my friends houses nor mine. I suspect they are selling these at a low price because someone screwed up on the engineering and intentions side, and they need to get rid of them because they are not in specification(they don't fit). For whatever the reason, both of the units I purchased had the same (in fact equivalent) problem.
That being said, at one point I did manage(don't ask) to get one of these in a socket and plugged into my Dell laptop. Worked, for about an hour before the dell reported an fault saying it detected a non-standard power supply, subsequently crashing my system. If that was not bad enough, a self-willed smell was coming from the supply (like it was melting and shorting out), and the item was quite hot. Clearly, I should have given up earlier.
It is not worth it to return these (and not Amazon's liability) so I just chucked them.
When I thought about it a little more, I felt it better to shelter my investment spending the additional money on the OEM version, which I purchased and is working well, even though I contemplation the cost is quite a bit higher then it should be. I don't know what came over me.
My suggestion, sojourn clear looking somewhere else.

Indecent SCREEN OF DEATH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I concede with the other reviews. I bought the Dell 1720 laptop online after a bit of research (not enough simply) and I have had noting but problems. Blue screens, video card crashes, contradictory software. This laptop cannot perform the simplest tasks without struggling. This result should be recalled and blacklisted.
The after-sales support was horrendous - no one knew how to fix the laptop after hours & hours on-clutch with Indian Call centres. Once elevated, they could do nothing further, not even a refund or exchange. I will be sending them a sound letter shortly, considering the amount I paid and the promises made.
STAY To another place FROM ANY PRODUCT WHERE YOU CANNOT WALK INTO A STORE, GET FACE-TO-FACE CUSTOMER SERVICES AND GET A REFUND!!!!!
Lesson: DELL WILL NOT HONOR THEIR WARRANTY!
I ordered a Dell Inspiron laptop 1 1/2 years ago and it worked basic until recently. The screen went black and the system would not start. Turned out that the video carte de visite had failed.
I contacted Dell customer support to activate my next business day commitment and after more than a week I have gotten nowhere with them. My claim has been "escalated" twice with the same excuses and option to fix the problem. They claim they have no video cards in stock and I will have to wait 2-3 weeks for a replacement fated, 2-3 weeks for a loaner system, or 2-3 weeks for a replacement system -- unsophisticatedly my NEXT DAY warranty is anything but.
I explained that this is a mission critical system and a 2-3 week put off is unacceptable given the high price I paid for the next day warranty. I offered to take another clear out or model of graphics card and even offered to go buy the card myself if the agreed to pay
for it.
They refused to refrain from in any way. So, I am left with a useless laptop for 2-3 weeks until it becomes convenient for them to honor the
promise. I will never buy another Dell product again and recommend that others who are not technically experienced with fixing computers or that difficulty a "mission critical" system that they look elsewhere because Dell cannot be relied upon to fix broken systems in a propitious manner.
Steer clear of this like the plague.
I purchased a Dell Inspiron 1720, refurbished, and it has been nothing but agitate since the box was opened. During the "Computer Set-Up" Vista crashed & rebooted the machine. It kept randomly rebooting, without any poem or reason: While I was looking at the installed programs; When I tried some of the pre-packaged games (solitaire); When I was online using Windows Pioneer; When I was using my Firefox browser. It would restart with multiple programs or a distinct program running.
The obvious fix was to upgrade to Windows XP. Except that this machine is engineered so that it is not back to front compatible with any OS prior to Vista.
It was even replaced with another refurbished machine which crashed proper as frequently and inexplicably.
Then they replaced some of the hardware (CPU & Hard drive) and returned it without reinstalling the operating system or any software. After I did that the computer continued to randomly reboot. Now they after to return to the beginning and make me do their diagnostic work for them instead of making solid on their poorly designed machine.
Buy something else instead. There has not been one PC in my possession that has not needed serious striving to get to work at the most basic level, and this machine continues that experience. Prevent your money & aggravation...buy some other system.
The Bundle features a large compartment for books, binders and other supplies.
200 era warranty.

How can I transfer video from my Sony Handycam to a Dell Inspiron 1720 with an S video cord?
Q: I have a Sony Handycam and a Dell Inspiron 1720. I need to transfer video from the Handycam to the Dell. The only port the Handycam seems to have is an S video cord, but when I plug it into my laptop nothing happens. Is there any way to transfer video???
A: The s-video port on your computer is OUT only - not IN. This is used to connect the computer to projection devices.
Your camcorder also came with an "AV cable". You will need this for the audio (if you want the audio to go with that video). S-VIDEO does only VIDEO - it does not carry any audio.
Since you did not tell us which camcorder model, I'll assume it is an older analog camcorder. You need to get an "Analog/Digital Bridge" like those from Pinnacle:
http://www.pinnaclesys.com/PublicSite/us/Products/Consumer+Products/Dazzle/Family.htm
Connect the S-video cable to the AD bridge; cannect the AV cable to the camcorder - and connect the red, white (if stereo) or black RCA jacks to the AD bridge - it is all color coded... DO NOT connect the yellow RCA jack - that is for video (and you are already connected with S-Video). Then connect the AD bridge to the computer's USB port.
If your camcorder is MiniDV or Digital8 tape based, and if you can get a firewire port added to that computer (does it have a PCMCIA slot available?) then it would be best to transfer video and audio using a firewire cable and the camcorder's DV port connected with a firewire cable to the computer's firewire port.
