What is the difference between the Gateway MC7801u and MC7833u?

Q: They seem to be identical in specs, but have a 200 dollar price difference. What's the deal?

A: From what I could tell, different CPUs and hard drive sizes !

The MC7801u has an Intel Core 2 Duo T5800 CPU @ 2 MB L2 cache, 2.0 GHz, 800 MHz FSB (and a 320 GBs Hard Drive)

    http://support.gateway.com/s/Mobile/2008/MCSeries/MC7801u/MC7801usp3.shtml

The T5800 is a March 2008 "Merom-2M" (standard-voltage, 65 nm) Mobile CPU, the first mobile version of the Core 2, it became Intel's premier line of mobile processors with more emphasis on low power consumption to enhance notebook battery life. Merom is the first Intel mobile processor to feature Intel 64 architecture. The T5800 was part of the second wave of processors featuring an 800 MT/s FSB and using the new Socket P.

    The MC7833u has an Intel Core 2 Duo T6400 CPU @ 2.0GHz, 800MHz FSB, 2MB L2 Cache (and a 500 GBs Hard Drive)

    http://www.gateway.com/systems/product/529668241.php

The T6400 is a January 6, 2009 "Penryn-2M" (standard-voltage, 45 nm) mobile CPU, this is the successor to the Merom, it is built on the 45 nanometer process. Important advances include the addition of new instructions including SSE4 and new fabrication materials; most significantly a hafnium-based high-k dielectric.

More (Technical) information on Core 2 is available here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_Core_2

    And here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_Core_2_microprocessors

So to recap: The $200 difference brings you a newer more efficient CPU and (possibly) a larger Hard Disk.

    Hope this helps
