Customer Reviews
This offshoot is... usable.I was in the family way quite a bit more from this laptop, as its technical specs are pretty good. The conceal is a decent size, easy to see in bright light, and clear. The backlit keys are a considerable touch, if not a bit wonky. Other customers complain about the weight, but I've never really had a incorrigible with that... unfortunately, that is partly due to the fact that I can't take it anywhere. (See my gripes) The keys are a bit indigent to type on at first. I don't know if I just got used to them, or if I broke them in. The touch pad works well, as do the mouse buttons. The poll quality is decent until you try listening to something while there's background noise.
Now, for the bad things. First off, a month or two after I received the laptop, the battery-operated stopped working properly. The battery icon on the tray will either say 0% unremittingly, plugged in and not charging, or read 100% constantly. Whenever I un plug it, it dies 10-15 minutes later, regardless of how covet it's been plugged in. I don't know if this is an issue with vista, or the laptop itself, as neither gateway nor amazon would refund my notes or fix it... even though I bought the three year limited warranty. Next, the leather padding began to part with its stickiness and began bubbling up. It looks really terrible, and notwithstanding having peeled it up and super glued it back down, it still bubbles up. Also, sometimes randomly, the media be in control of touch buttons stop working and lighting up. I've yet to figure out why, but restarting on the whole fixes it. My biggest gripe with it aside from the battery issue is the fait accompli that the video card (or lack thereof) is no upgradable. Do not buy this if you plan on playing any video games deviation from MMOs (World of Warcraft, Champions Online, Final Pretence XI, etc.) As I mentioned before, with even the littlest background noise, the computer's tiny speakers well-founded do not cut it. Finally, the computer just doesn't seem like it has as much RAM and processing power as it does. It will lag out rather first-class for no reason at times, and this is not due to viruses or anything like that.
To sum it up: If you just need something for putsing around on the internet, or playing MMOs, it's a favourable deal. But for anything more complicated, like heavy photo/video editing, this computer might not sanction the grade.
Keyboard & Mouse outlet
The keyboard and mouse closing up working, intermittently and required restart. It looked like it was locked gelid because you couldn't do ALT-CTL-DEL, but the quick keys alongside the keyboard would still bring up WebPages etc... Honestly the keyboard and mouse would quit working. Calling Gateway was worthless. They had me reinstall all the unprecedented software via the hard drive, which I had already done once from DVD disk. Even without letting it do any windows updates at all, it would still track up. Gateway wanted me to send it to them. I decided to try Newegg because I just got it...(maybe a botch) They have had my laptop 10 days and no word yet. They just say "Received". In the olden times, Newegg was great. I have bought tons of stuff from them. Honestly, I am agitated they have changed their core operations. I just bought my wife's laptop from Tiger Plain because they offer a 30 day money back or exchange and seems much more customer friendly. Odd enough hers worked fine and I am still waiting on Newegg with mine. I read the policy before buying but still bought from the due to my previous to experiences with them. Now, I wonder if that wasn't a mistake. Should have gone Amazon... At this applicable I don't think I would recommend anyone to by a PC or Laptop from Newegg, but they may prove me wrong.
Top MACHINE
Enormous VALUE, WORKS PERFECT, NICE SETTINGS. Trial SW like Antivirus and Auspices, should come permanent, and not at additional cost after. Otherwise, great deal.
Gateway MC7833u
This is a very redoubtable looking laptop. It's fast, with lots of hard drive organize and ram and more than adequate for the average user. It has a built in wireless card and camera, you couldn't ask for more. The lighted keyboard makes it easy to order at night and the screen resolution is awesome! I highly recommend anyone to buy this low-priced but classy computer.
In the long run keyboard backlighting!!!
Backlit keyboard is this laptop's superior feature and makes using it far more versatile. Unfortunately, the keyboard itself is not as noticeable for everyDAY use. The center area of the keyboard is not as well supported so you have to punch the principal area keys a lot harder to get the keys to register on the display. Massive HDD (500GB) and 4gigs of memory, along with Centrino equipped 2.0GHz CPU, rectify this 64bit Vista PC perform really well. The WEI is only 3.7 because the integrated graphics truss is not as good as most Desktops with a dedicated plug-in video card. That is made up for the be realized 16x9 widescreen 16" diagonal display. Also built-in is a 1.3MP webcam, microphone and two speakers. HDMI manufacture connector is a nice bonus. Only thing missing is Bluetooth mainstay and a BluRay DVD player. Internet WiFi access is very fast and stable. All in all a very good value and feature rich Notebook PC for the price.
