Shocking product, HORRIBLE company, AVOID
I purchased 3 Gateway computers for my people and guess what? They ALL broke down within 2 months, believe it or not. This one was the fastest to. The wireless did not vocation from the start. The DVD burner did not work. Like all the laptops I purchased, the lid was very sultry and you have to use 2 hands (one steadying the notebook) when making even the tiniest adjustment to the lid or else the whole pad will raise and then hit the surface it's on.
When I sent this in for the repair, it took 4 weeks for me to get it back. Then, the lid wasn't resolved at all (just like the others), all my data was erased even though it was only peripheral problems.
Even-handed a horrible product and a horrible company. I should've listened to everyone who told me not to buy from Gateway. Never again.

This lap top suits me excellent.
I purchased this lap top off TV - had no before-mentioned experience with the particular model. It was shipped to me in a week. I have had absolutely no problems with it. All the softwear is fine-grained - no issues with the ethernet/wy-fi, DVD drive/burner etc. I down loaded iTunes, have a span of thousand songs on it- no problem...
It may not be a fancy (read "expensive")or trendy (scan "apple") model, but then I am neither fancy, trendy nor expensive myself. I am happy with my acquisition - it suits my needs.

bad networking; worse bolster
I got this motor car for $200 off retail and thought I got a bargain. Right off the bat, the wireless didn't profession. I went through the tech support route and after trying to reinstall the driver, ended up having to reinstall that operating system. I extinct all data, but the machine was new so I could live with that. After the reinstall, though, the ethernet didn't toil. I reinstalled again and this time everything worked... for about a week. I ended up sending it back. I received it back (reasonably hasty turnaround) and everything was ok... for about a week. I sent it back again and this time it returned with the ethernet still not functioning. I called the service dispatch number to find out what repair they did. According to the dispatch, they ran some automated diagnostic which said to supplant the hard drive. Nevermind that my complaint was with the network.
By this point, I can't arrival the machine to the store, which is what I should have done in the first place. I asked the dispatch about replacing the implement and he said this model doesn't qualify for a replacement, so short of filing a beef with the attorney general, a step I've read is about the only thing they pay attention to, I'm SOL. For $20, I guesstimate I'll buy a USB ethernet adapter and consider it lesson learned: DON'T BUY STUFF FROM GATEWAY.
