Do Not Buy This Laptop!!!I bought this laptop in January of 2008. It is now Grand and I have sent it to Gateway four times for repair. I have had the motherboard replaced twice, the keyboard twice, and the remembrance once. I have also had clips rattling around inside. Each time I got the laptop back, it worked large enough for me to get important work started and then it would stop running. Please learn from my misconstrue and do not under any circumstances by this laptop!!
Gateway-the Ebola virus of computers.
We bought a Gateway and Windows got hosed for some calculate. We called 1-800-GATEWAY for support. Guess what? If you buy a Gateway anywhere but their website you must call a separate loss number. WTF!? Then we needed to restore it but the restore partition was bad. Had to get the recovery disk. They charged me $20 for a $1 CD-R. Then it wouldn't exertion, and they wanted to charge me to tell me how to use it. Again WTF? These people are horrible. Save yourself a lot of pest and get a Mac. Get HP. Get an abacus. Anything but Gateway.
Awful product, HORRIBLE company, AVOID
I bought 3 Gateway notebooks for myself and my one's nearest a short while ago, because they all had copious storage space and were well-priced. BIG MISTAKE. They ALL had problems within 2 months. Really.
This one, exactly a month in, just died. Had a blue screen, then scurvy screen, then I couldn't get pass the setup screen. I was very carefuly with installing software, and didn't short work of or drop the machine. No internal or external stimulus, it didn't become manifest when I tried to startup, I was in the middle of using it and BLINK!, it just died. I'ver never seen that on a computer.
So I had to send it in, and it takes a month for them to "fix" and then send my laptop back to me, so I'm without a computer for a month. All my observations is erased, even though the problem was hardware (the "SATA pins were loose") and they give no signification what was wrong with it or what they fixed, none whatsoever. I have to log onto online chat THREE TIMES straight to get this info, and they just tell me briefly that the "SATA pins were unspecific". I asked for documentation but they wouldn't or couldn't give me it.
My laptop doesn't enter into the picture to be fully fixed. When I start it, I get an error message saying "media assay failure" and saying the cables are loose. When I asked Gateway about this they said "oh, we don't fix the products, we have someone else do it" and then told me to send it back in. Yeah, like I can offer to do without a computer for an entire month again to "fix" a problem that most likely will not be fixed, not to mention have my details erased, as well.
Also, like EVERY one of the Gateway laptops I bought, the lid sticked -- significance that if you try to adjust it, you have to use 2 hands or else the whole laptop will raise off the surface and will hit the surface when you notice it. I specically asked them to fix this and they did not.
Luckily, I backed up the very very important document I was working on or else it would have been an utter tragedy. As is, I was deprived of my laptop for a whole month, and still am nervous that this piece of junk will malfunction at a whim.
In terms of engagement, it's not bad, a bit slow and the speakers are horrible, but otherwise it's what I expected. But believe me, it's not worth the cost.
Avoid this product, and this company, at all costs.
so far so salutary
I bought this laptop because i have to make a trip a lot and I need entertainment at the places where I have to go. Speed, design, almost everthing is very adequate, i bought in in red and i love it. But the graphic is not what I expected, could be better. I do a lot with Pictures and that is reasonable fine, but dont try to play or watch a DVD. The pictures are not that clear as you improvise. I'am thinking about it to return this one and get another brand.
