HP 2133 Netbook pleasant but a bit on the slow side
In the over one year since I have owned this netbook, there's some positives that still corpse positives:
- the aluminum case is still the biggest plus for this. It's sturdy and doesn't have the tuppenny feel that some plastic models did.
- the hard drive is quiet and at 120gb, is more than enough storage for what I use this netbook for (chirography)
- the screen resolution is excellent and provides a nice clear look on of all icons and programs
Now for the not so good.
- battery life is dismal, dialect mayhap getting just under 2 hours. I was hoping for more and I'm sure the 6-cell battery-operated provides a great deal longer run time, but the 3-cell mobile this came with is nothing good for extended use
- the fan comes on every so often and has a way of making a loud alarms. Restarting resets it and it's good for a while longer, but it's annoying sometimes.
- the power lacking VIA-7 processor can't toy with videos, even ones that have been downloaded locally to the hard drive. It's at best not good for that. Good thing I mostly use this for writing, but as a short video designer, it would have been nice to at least have them on the netbook to play.
- the glossy screen smudges question, but that's not as big an issue as the glare. Sitting with this unit and having a light or window behind you, it's a nicer repeat than it is an LCD screen.
I am considering selling this and upgrading to a model with an Intel ATOM N270 processor, which improves freestyle life as well as making it capable for doing things like video and audio. The HP 2140 keeps the expanded ports and aluminum at all events, as well as increases the screen size and processor capabilities.

Bad Motherboard
About 3 months after I bought this laptop, talk broke of defective motherboards. I didn't know this until about 17 months after I bought it. I had all the symptoms I had deliver assign to about online and at HP's own forums. I called HP, got the run around, and finally got through to a man who wanted to sell me a new motherboard for about $500 - the prize of a new HP notebook. I tried a few other numbers, and the best I could get was the option to send it in for repairs which would not be inundated by HP. I don't think I'll buy another HP product for a while...

DO NOT Buy This Computer!
I made the misjudgement of buying two (2) of these computers last Christmas for my kids. We have had nothing but problems ever since. First of all, the computers Gorgonize, crash and do not "like" the internet. I will not go into the drama of trying to have these things stationary. Secondly, by the time the kids opened their presents (Christmas Day, take it for granted!), it had been 30 days since I had purchased the computers, so I could not get a refund. Third, it has been almost a full YEAR since I purchased these computers, and my clutch still cannot use them. What a waste of money.

Undecided systemboard has now crashed - seems to be a common problem
Loved this PC, do entirely a bit of traveling and it was perfect for it. Yes, it ran hot, so I used a cooler. Yes, it was slow in many tasks, but I was management Vista on it. Note the use of the term WAS frequently in this review. Recently, over the last week or so, it has been count on to boot at times. Today, it refused to boot at all. No HD activity, by the skin of one's teeth a power light. Researched the symptoms and found that the 2133 system board has a very ripe failure rate, and that is what is wrong with mine now. The machine is 15 months old, work tech support is very painful with this model, this appears to be a known subject for HP, and it will be cheaper for me to purchase a new computer than it will be to replace the motherboard. So, I now have a very expensive (purchased it when the honorarium was 700+) paperweight.

Incredibly good PC
It's not very lickety-split but it gets the job done. I use it mainly to grab pictures as shot with my Canon 5D and 5D MK2 when in the battleground. It has built-in wireless so I can connect in my hotel for emailing and internet. Piles of storage for even a 2 or 3 day shooting assignment. I loaded the Canon software and Gimp for some perspicacious image adjusting. It has plenty of connectivity and comes with Windows XP so no Vista mysteries.
Almost spot on. The price WAS amazing!
First, I inadequacy to forewarn you, this is a confusing review. Do I like the HP2133 or not? Let's talk about the value that I purchased it for: $299.99 (+$27.69 S&H; I live in Alaska. Your S&H may be less) from TigerDirect. Why does the entitle say, "WAS amazing?" The day after I purchased this, TigerDirect took that sale price off their website and the Amazon peddle. I don't think you can get a NEW one from TigerDirect at ANY price. There is a refurb. for $279... If you trust refurbs it is still a Titanic deal.
Now here's what I got for $300 (there are about 5 different versions of the HP Mini 2133):
VIA C7-M, 1.2 GHz processor
1GB RAM
120GB HD
Windows XP Haunt (SP2)
60 Day trial of MS Office 2007 *Professional*
HP extra software (not all bloatware)
1.3M Pixel webcam
3 Cubicle battery (about 2 hours on a charge)
8.9" (22.7 cm) 1280 x 768 screen
All the remain that you expect on a 2133.
Here's what I like about the HP 2133: The keyboard may be the best, compared to any netbook I have placed my hands on, and I've played with an Acer Aspire One, Asus eee, MSI Reel, and a Dell Mini Note 9. The speakers are very good for a netbook; the webcam seems alight and of very good quality; the weight of 2.8 lbs. (1.3 kg) is just about supreme, even with the optional 6 cell battery; of course the netbook's size is what draws you to the netbook in the first locate; the screen resolution at 1280 x 768 is beautiful; and did I mention the keyboard is eximious?
Okay, why did I rate this four stars (not five stars)? Don't I think that $300 for this netbook is a benefit price? No, it is not a good price, it is an AMAZING price... but you can't get it for this evaluation anymore, unless you want a refurb. But that's not why I rated it four stars. The HP 2133 is almost fitting, except for three things: processor, battery life, and screen size.
Processor: The VIA C7-M, 1.2 GHz is nice, but I can tell that my daughter's Intel Atom 270 is just a tad bit snappier on some things. The VIA does top-drawer with YouTube pages and a couple of test DVD's, but I've upgraded to 2GB of RAM and I think that has helped. It balks a bit with an exterior DVD, but it is not unusable. My guess is that you would not want to watch Blu-Ray disks on this, but since I don't have an external Blu-Ray competitor, I can't tell you for sure.
Battery life: 2 hours on the 3 apartment battery is okay, but I felt I needed to purchase a 6 cell freestyle Super-Capacity Li-ion Battery For HP 2133 Mini-Note series substitute for KE948UT KX868AT KR922UT HSTNN-DB63 KX869AT KR939UT KR922UT series Ac Laptop Notebook Main Battery [ 4800mAh 6 Cells] for my sporadic multi-stop trips to other parts of Alaska, or California. I deem, though I haven't tested it, that I'll get about 4 hours on the 6 cell battery, for a combined 6 hours with the two batteries. But even at that, the mobile life seems puny compared to the ASUS 1000HE at 9.5 hours on a separate charge or even most new netbooks that last about 6 hours on one battery charge.
Screen greatness: Now don't get me wrong: I purchased the 2133 BECAUSE of the screen *resolution.* 1280 x 768 is about the highest word of honour available in a netbook (most are 1024 x 600 these days), but why didn't HP put 10.1" (25.5 cm) cover on the lid? There definitely is enough space to put a 10 inch screen on the 2133; lately shrink the speaker area a little bit. Compared to my daughter's 10.1" MSI Gibberish the icons are really small.
Actually, I can't figure out why any of the netbook makers are not making a 10 inch WXGA (1280x768 staunchness) screens. The Gigabyte M912 (8.9" as well), Inventec SX3 (8.9" screen), Samsung NC20 (12" gauge), and Dell Mini 12 (duh, 12" screen) all have WXGA intention (in some cases 1280 x 800). But none have a 10" screen. Do I sound like Goldilocks testing the three bears netbooks? The 12" small screen is too large (for a netbook), the 8.9" screen is too small (the icons are dinky), but the 10" shield is just right. According to some accounts, the HP 2140 is supposed to have 1366 x 768 answer on a 10.1" screen model, but as I write this, I know of no one who has seen or reviewed this mystic savage. To make matters worse, the available resolution on the HP 2140 is 1024 x 576 (less than the guide 1024 x 600). Perhaps I should have waited, and purchased the HP 2140 with a higher unravelling, but here's the bottom line: for $300 the HP 2133 is a steal! I am quite happy with what I have!

HP 2133 Mini is a hit
I was looking for a stinting computer to take overseas that will allow to keep up with email, connect to and run my GPS, etc and not take a lot of space and not be hard to lug around. The HP2133 Mini is very close-fisted, fully wireless; and with the refurb model being less than $300, it was a STEAL. Took me two natural life to get everything loaded. HINT: Get a copy of Virtual Clone Drive and put ISO's of your fix in place CD/DVD's on the unit's hard drive... Then install your add-on products. Only grievance: single core is slower than what I am used to. Biggest plus: connectivity and penetrating res screen (1280x768) (takes some tweaking to be readable). Keyboard has a commendable feel.

Very hair-splitting machine
This computer does only just what it is advertised to do. When I opened the box and turned it on there were no surprises. Tiger direct shipped as promised and I in reality received the machine earlier than Tiger direct estimated. The divide is small and if you need big print you will have to play with the display settings. Fortunately, HP put an icon on the reprimand bar called S3 which allows you to adjust the screen resolution on the fly without having to go to restraint panel etc. The user manuals are on the hard drive and easy to entrance and read. The wireless card works on the wireless networks I have tried. The motor recognized the cd/dvd drive I plugged in. All in all it will be a great machine to take on vacation, proceed on on a plane, etc. I haven't tried bluetooth yet, but I would bet it works well also. The machine seems vigorous and reliable.
