We got a lemonFor what it is good, we want to share that we got a dud. The touchpad is defective and it renders the useability of the shape nearly impossible. One of the most annoying defects a computer can have. Since our purchase was based in general on reviews on Amazon, I wanted to share this. We would not buy this if we could go back again...
I'll never buy an HP again
I ordered this laptop new directly from HP a bit over a year ago. My last computer was an HP and it lasted for almost nine years, so I figured HP would be the way to go. The G70 seemed like a huge deal - I upgraded to Vista 64 bit, 4 GB RAM, 250 GB industrious drive and more processor than I would ever need, even doing the memory intense graphics business I do as profession.
Shipping was extremely slow. I paid for overnight and it took 5 duration to get here. HP never apologized or offered a refund.
Once the laptop got here, it was great, even though I quickly practised I couldn't actually make use of the power I'd paid for. The fans are far too feeble to cool the powerhouse they recommended I build and said would be fine. I had to keep the effectuation throttled at all time or the laptop would get too hot to even handle!
The USB ports were finicky and the SD press card slot did not function half the time. I shrugged them off as quirks and figured I'd be talented to live with it, even though repeated restarts to get a working SD card made my life dark.
My warranty expired three weeks ago, the laptop is exactly one year old, and last ceaselessly, the motherboard burned out in the middle of work with no warning and no prior symptoms. I called HP tech bolster, who refused to assist me because I was out of warranty. They said they would give me tech support if I paid a $50 maintenance charge. I said no thank you, and consulted a friend instead. After unceasing tests we reached a sound diagnosis that the only possibility was the motherboard. I placed another call to HP and asked to acquire a replacement part. They told me they would not sell me a motherboard directly, and referred me to two about 'official' HP repair centers. When I called, one no longer does repairs for hermitical owners or the self-employed (and has not for some time), and will only service computers for big companies. The other has never been a restore center at all!
I tried calling some other local businesses and they all told me the same things - They do not read the parts to repair HP laptops because the parts must be purchased directly through HP. Huh, indeed? That's not what they told me! I called HP back and they swore up and down they do not sell laptop motherboards to persons, and I must go through the two repair centers I was referred to. After speaking to a supervisor, they reluctantly certainly to sell me one - For $392.55.
For the same amount, I can now buy a brand new comparable laptop from a different company, or advance yet - Build a vastly superior desktop machine for less money.
Before all this I was an HP fangirl, and recommended their products to friends all the yet. Now I will never own one again!
Crucial
Laptop was a charity for parents.
Great value for dollar - everything needed for a casual alcohol.
By the way - they loved it!
satisfied chap
I am satisfied with outcome. I obtained the recommendations from Consumer Reports and noted this particular HP outcome was one of the "best buy" recommendations just below the pricier products also recommended. You will find less rank for the cord for 110 voltage hookup in your travel pack since the 17 inch takes up all the intermission inside the usual sized/shaped carrier. The larger-sized veil also provides a much more comfortable-sized keyboard to use with the device. The cordless mouse purchased with gambit made the package as comfortable as a home model.
HP G70-460US Computer Procession
Bought this computer since my sometime laptop is now about 6 years old and only has a 30g hard drive that is not only obsolete, but slow too. Got a wonderful price and rebate on this computer so the combo was affordable. The computer starts up pretty promptly for running Vista and has all the features and attributes I want. Large certain screen and full keyboard. I immediatly spent the 20% accessory reduction that came with the unit for a bigger capacity battery. Now I use the original as the "back-up" power provenance while on travel. Unfortunatly some of the software it comes with (like Home Intermediation 2007) expires after 30 days and you have to shell out $[...] to keep it up and on-going. Same thing with other "trial" software that's installed. The processor is fast and runs internet applications very swiftly. This was truly a turn on and go computer. I really have nothing bad to say about it other than it's a little bit heavy. But it's a 17 inch laptop and it should weigh more than my privious 15 inch section. If your contemplating a new laptop, this should be one on your short list.
