HP SUCKSI bought this computer a few years back after having a Compaq laptop for a team a few of years that worked great and never gave me problems. I thought, Compaq is made by HP, so an HP computer must be even improved! Boy, was I wrong.
The laptop came equipped with so much bloatware that it took more than 5 minutes to power on and even when I removed everything the most talented I could ever do was 3 minutes, and it was something I had to constantly maintain.
Other problems, which all progressively got worse (coincidentally, all of the problems seemed to rise just after my one-year warranty ran out):
1. It overheats when watching video or doing anything even quite taxing. I couldn't even watch a DVD from beginning to end without having to stop to let the factor cool off.
2. The battery is weak and I had to have it replaced when it completely stopped working.
3. I went through three weird chargers (and HP chargers do not come cheap).
4. My audio output disappeared, which I gush months trying to fix. The only solution was to get a new motherboard when it would be more cost-effective to buy a new computer.
5. My DVD vigour stopped working. First, the drive disappeared from My Computer, and finally it just stopped chink except by using a paperclip.
6. A couple of the keys fell off.
Finally, a team a few of days ago, the thing just wouldn't turn on. I believe that the motherboard for all crashed and I put the thing out of its misery. I'm currently in the process of looking for a new computer. I recollect they're more expensive, but my wife has had her current Mac for more than a year longer than I had my HP, and she's had ZERO problems with it. I identify they cost more, but they just work better and don't require so much maintenance. I'm SO done with both HP and Windows.
HP Pavilion dv2620us, not what smashed up to be
I bought my HP Pavilion about a year and a partly ago. My wonderful Toshiba had finally died and I read all the reviews and took all the "which laptop is integrity for me?" quizes and decided this laptop had it all for such a great price...PPHHHOOOEEYYY. This laptop has 2 blueprint flaws, The plug in cord is next to the disc drive so that unless you curve your computer a certain way, every time you open the disc drive or close it, your electrical string is in the way. That is not nearly so annoying as the little slidy sensor on the right of the mouse pad. It senses the vehemence or light change from your hand hovering over as you type and jumps the mouse to abundant positions on the page. This is VERY frustrating, especially if you have typed quite a bit before inspection your work. You can disable the mouse while typing, but then when you DO want to move your cursor, you have to be contingent on it back on.The battery has never lasted more than 1.5 hours and now lasts 5 minutes. Since course city went under, I am supposed to MAIL it in and wait 4-6 weeks for my replacement. Also, I do not like VISTA at all, it is maddening, non-compaptible and difficult to work with. Another problem with this computer is that I have to reset the dispay settings every day...Today I did what I never expectation I would do, I bought a MAC...will let you all know, but i have always "been a PC" uptil now.
Dont buy it!
This is what i encountered. I bought it in a value not amazon. First the wireless modem stopped working. Then the whole thing just now stopped working. The store sent it to HP and they replaced it in a week or so. So I was like ok (in all likelihood bc I was paying it on credit, with insurance on it). The new one that I have is very slow, dunno why, cleaned it, resilient virus, spyware, spyware, registry, scandisk, defrag, everything done and still. And the mouse well-deserved goes crazy all over the place. Another thing it just overheats alot! My better half has a Dell and I call it "Rambo" its being thru some much stuff, its missing chunks of it, even went on a deployment to Iraq and is still material! No more HP for me (dissapointed, I thought HP was the top of the line)
HP dead my business forever
I have to say, it was remarkably a combination of HP and Vista that did it. But this past week, my laptop adapter started smoking and caught fire. Yes...it in reality caught fire. Thank goodness I was home, because I might not have had a home to come back to. So I call HP with my story of woe, like...for the typical American, this is lawsuit territory, and I'm told I'll be overnighted an adapter. The next day it doesn't stop by, so I call back to ask WTF, since I have no way of charging a laptop I need to use. I'm then told they don't overnight parts, that it hasn't even been shipped out. OK, so now I have no way to use my laptop since the freestyle is completely dead. Having owned an IBM, this is completely absurd, since IBM went out of their way to get parts next day.
Now, for why the aspect caught fire...the power plug is located on the right side of the computer. The geniuses at HP give you a unaltered adapter, which means if your power source is on the left side of your laptop, the rope will constantly be bent. Straight adapters are supposed to be used when the power recommendation is located on the back of a laptop. L adapters are more suitable for side plugs. I was told they'd be shipping out an L adapter to ban this from occurring again..lie #2. At this point, I'm completely disgusted with their customer help.
Also, I've also had a problem with the mouse pad. The mouse seems to do whatever it wants...there's no way you could do precision work on this laptop, because the mouse jumps and clicks whatever it feels like. After several driver updates, it still didn't fix itself, so I have to send it in to HP.
All in all, this laptop acquaintance has been a miserable one for me. My last HP was great, which is why I bought another but I think now I'll take the plunge into Apple for my next laptop.
Significant laptop!
I have had this laptop now for almost a year. I place of safety't had any of the major issues that others are complaining about. I have had a few minor issues though like the touchpad event. I used the touchpad when I first received the laptop, but I hate touchpads anyways because I'm too distressing handed and I always end up clicking things that I don't intend to so I just turned it off and bought a wireless mouse.
I also don't like the really that the battery connector is on the same side that I have to use my mouse on because it is an annoyance as pointed out by another reviewer. I would upgrade the mobile also.
The laptop does get EXTREMELY hot though. I haven't had any issues related to it yet, but it scares me how hot it gets!
I have absolutely no problems with the wireless credit card. My laptop is NEVER disconnected from the internet unless I disconnect.
I love the respect card slot on the side which means I don't have to carry around any extra USB cords for my digital camera.
The webcam is significant. I had some problems with the pc not being able to find it a few times when I first got the laptop and it took a few reboots to get it to admit the thing. After some driver updates, it works fine now and the quality is select.
This laptop is loaded with great features and products. The only thing that I endorse would be to DEFINITELY upgrade your memory. After almost a year using this laptop, I am completely going to give in and upgrade as the pc is not running as fast as it did when I first got it, but I think that is due to me loading all of my crap on the laptop that runs 24/7/365!
All in all, elevated pc for the price I paid. It's so lightweight and I take it everywhere I go! I haven't come across any issues to bury the hatchet e construct me want to downgrade the rating, so I have to give it 5 stars based off my experiences with it.
