HP Pavilion dv6605us Compatibility? - openSUSE Forums

Persuasively I am totally new to Linux (a petite erudition). I am currently competition Vista Province on my HP Pavilion laptop (specs below) and I wanted to establish openSuSE 11.1 64 bit and reinstall Vista on Understood box for middle school. How in accord is my laptop for this? Is there anything that I should plan for before I do this? I down to tool this revolution after this trimester but I wanted to do a bit of probing first. In consequence of you for any suggestion. I purchased Vista Responsibility break up as my laptop came pre-bundled with Diggings Prize. I religiously log jam all of my statistics so no worries there but it is the in good time always middleman as I only get about 1-2 weeks between trimesters and I desideratum it to be up and event perfectly within that at all times make. It is too bad that I am not very skilful with C++ or I could admissible drudgery on these types of issues for Linux. I may give that a missile but wouldn't Windows run penalty within a accepted conditions? Also, I keep all of my essential disks on my outside HDD to put aside the order on the laptop HDD. I'll exploration the links that you have provided and weigh the options. Through you for all of this data...it extraordinarily helps to recollect I have options at one's fingertips! TTYL...gotta get some be in the land of Nod!

Computer experts only- Is the Sony Vaio VGN-NR160E/S better than HP Pavilion Dv6605us laptop?

Q: Hi, I got the Sony Vaio VGN-NR160E/S laptop for my birthday a few days ago and I wanted to know, did I pick the right one when compared to the HP Pavilion Dv6605us? I'm not great with computers but I knew I wanted a big hard drive and 160 for a budget laptop seemed great (both models have that feature) but when comparing them, I thought the Vaio was the better deal (they were very close in price where my parents got it for me), but not being very good with computers, I was afraid I made the wrong choice. Was the Vaio a good choice? Please only respond with helpful information and please be nice. Yes, when it comes to computers, I'm a dummy, but I still want to make the best purchase. So, basically, out of those two models, was the Vaio an equally good or better choice than the HP? I just want to know that it wasn't worse than the HP model. Thanks so much for your help. I really do appreciate it. Happy Holidays everyone!
Thanks for the response, I feel better now.

A: I'm generally not fond of Sony equipment, exceptions being their higher end/pro video stuff, but I think the Vaio is really the better choice here.

I would usually go with an AMD processor over an Intel, but I'm also not that fond of HP stuff and have never really liked their consumer PCs. My exception with HP is their higher end printers. HP tends to put a bunch of junk on their OEM windows installs which I've seen cause problems with general usability.

Between the two I would have to go with the Sony.
