Sony Vaio Notebook versus MacBook?
Q: I'm trying to decide between a Sony Vaio notebook (VGN-FW240J/H) and a MacBook (MB403LL/A). The new laptop will replace my desktop. The Vaio is larger, but I'm not sure of using MS Vista as my OS. The Mac seems like the more creative choice, but the Sony has more features. Any help or feedback on the computers is appreciated. Thanks.
A: The new Macbooks are the most energy efficient laptops on the market. The lighted keyboard is amazing. The fan is used to pull the air through the keyboard, so less dust is able to get in the cooling fins of your cpu. Also, the air is much cooler at the keyboard than it is from under the computer.
I have both a Vaio and a Macbook. My Mac is a replacement for my 2 year old Vaio. The complaints that I have about my Vaio is that Sony is the most horrible customer service that I have ever dealt with. If you happen to need drivers after the sale, you will have to buy discs, as Vaio's do not come with recovery discs. They are also not available for download, unless you sort through Sony UK and find a model that looks comparable to yours and download that driver. I have gone through 2 chargers, they just stop working.
I like how easy to plug in an external monitor or tv is for my Vaio. It has a 3.5mm jack that can be used to plug into anything with A/V inputs. I had no hardware issues with my Vaio other than the charger.
For my Mac, it is very hard to connect it to anything other than an AppleCinema display. Even if you buy the MiniDisplay port to DVI adapter, and then a DVI to HDMI and connect it to anything, you still won't get any sound.
I love how easy Leopard is to use, and how little it takes to run. I hated Vista when I upgraded, and have since downgraded back to XP.
Did you know that a computer running XP will start up, open a word document, save the document, and then shuts down faster than the same computer running Vista and doing the same task? This is what we call improvement?
Now the Vaio does have more connection features, which I feel the Macbook is lacking. But I don't really care about SD card readers and all that. I can simply plug in my camera to read that. Im talking about Firewire, 1394, stuff like that.
It is all a matter of your choice. Both are great machines and Windows is the industry standard right now. Im glad there is competition out there however, and I love my new Mac, I would not even consider anything else right now, but thats a personal choice.
