All-embracing, pretty awesome
I am a college commentator, obviously purchased this for college, and it is awesome, im acutally writing this reassessment on this computer right now, haha...anyways, other then the graphics card, this was an awsome securing...sony and microsoft are great for support accessibility... the computer delievers fearsome speed, and now with windows 7 its even faster..the processor is above average for most laptops, and the 4gb of RAM is also a grand perk. The computer is good looking, lightweight(all around good for mobility) expeditious and easy to set up or pack up.. fast startup nice layout of buttons and keyboard..alive...and ABOVE ALL DEPENDABLE!
Thanks alot!

Breathtaking Design, technical specs, and medium cost!
"Well done! Great performance and Blue-Ray w/HD display!"
Pros: Fast and smashing design. My first Chiclet keyboard and I love it! the screen is WOW! and the design is overwhelming
Cons: SLOW Hard drive. I'll soon be replacing with a 250GB SSD and that should come in this machine scream! Battery life a bit short...I'll be buying the larger battery-operated cause at times I want more and having a second would be even better!
Encapsulation: Great laptop for the price. Best purchase of a computer in a long everything and I have 6 laptops in the family! This one is mine!

Pulchritudinous Good Pricy Choice
I almost bought Dell studio 17", but a lot of reviews said troubles with disk excursion and one other thing (I don't remember). Some said they can be fixed. I don't want to fix anything after I paid for a trade-mark new machine. Manufacturer needs to see that fixing is not required by the user; it is his fault. So I went for Sony VGN-FW370J which is 0.6 short of 17". A bit pricy like a salesman from Most artistically Buy said "You are paying for the name". I could have got a laptop with similiar capability for some $300 less. I like the chic design and color and the specifications. I bought this one to supplement my existing 3 years old HP dv6000 15.4" which is giving some get under someone's skin with wireless reception. Works OK with ethernet connected. Sony laptop is top and I don't regret that I bought it. Wireless picked up real fast and I like it. A team a few of cons I came through in one month. One time screen went all disastrous in the middle of work and I had to restart. On another occassion, screen changed to deathly and white stripes also in the middle of work but went away after restart. So I must be aware to save my work. I don't know if it can be fixed and I have not contacted Sony. I am a right hander and use wireless mouse. This instrument has all USB ports near the front right side which kind of hinders my mouse share movements. Well, I have learned to live with one or the other shortcomings of all electronic consumer products. Other than those, this is a extensive machine worth investing.

I leaning it, almost a year later
I be versed it's not sold as new anymore, but the VAIO has served me very well since last July and with only very minor problems that I have been gifted to resolve. Sony sent me the Windows 7 upgrade quickly and as soon as I threw that on, it was completely perfect. Really no complaints, things like the battery discharging in hibernate don't confuse me at all - it's great at what it does and will still hold it's own compared to laptops at a similar bonus point today.

Fully Chock-full Laptop
I bought this laptop to make restitution for a 3 year-old Toshiba Satellite U-205. I did a lot of product research before settling on this one, and I must note that I strongly premeditated buying an apple but found its features lacking.
Great Features Cover:
Very good processor(not the fastest for laptops, but not far off)
Excellent graphics postal card(doesn't get much better in a laptop)
Blu-Ray Player!(full hd movies wherever you want to skinned for them without taking up massive amounts of hard drive space)
16.4 inch filter and some nice built in speakers do Blu-Ray movies justice.
HDMI out!(it could not be any easier to trap up to your HDTV, dual monitor support makes computing much more fun)
Profound battery life(you can actually use it for a few hours before you need to plug-in, fooling.)
Stylish design.(Mat-black top with shiny VAIO symbol, beautiful concealment, keyboard, even the power button looks nice)
Good found quality.(might not be an aluminum uni-body, but it's no piece of junk, very sturdy)
The valuation is right.
Downside:
HDMI out and a Blu-ray drive do not necessarily mean that you'll be competent to use it as a blu-ray player for your big screen. Although the HDMI out enables very convenient use of your HDTV as a prime or second monitor, I've experienced issues trying to play blu-ray on the big cover. I'm not sure if it's because of Windows, WinDVD software, or simply the hardware not being resilient enough. This is the one and only let-down I've experienced with an otherwise great computer.

Never Ever A Sony Anymore
I bought a Sony VAIO VGN-FW280J/H 16.4-Inch Laptop (2.26 GHz Intel Insides 2 Duo P8400 Processor, 4 GB RAM, 7200 RPM 320 GB Hard Thrust, BD-RW, Vista Premium) Gray, in May 2009 for the good price of USD 999.99. I didn't unreserved the box for about one month, because I have 2 other Laptops an Apple and a HP.
Then I used this Sony for about 2 months as a desktop, but not that much, so I didn't move or produce this Sony on th go. Then for somehow it builds moisture inside the LCD, I believe due to the hot weather, I contacted Sony Brook, they asked me to send the unit to Sony Repair in San Diego which I did and they received the portion on 10.05.2009. Yesterday on 10.20.2009 at 8 pm I got an email saying that the repair guesstimate is USD 699.99 plus tax, whaaaaaat?...I called right in another place asked them to send it back, this is crazy...
I just can not believe that this is a SONY, one of the biggest flock in electronics/multimedia/movie industry.
I will never ever buy a sony anymore...
Below is the email that I got from Sony Fettle:

Insignificant problems, nice computer
Well, after a week using this computer, I have a few considerations for those wishing to get one:
Bad points
* Veil : Although very nice the 16" screens suffers from reflection, its a pain to get a humane view position, bright environments makes it almost impossible
* Freestyle: The worst I ever had: Lasts less than 90 minutes with bright dimmed
* Keyboard: Unusually, really bad. the individual keys makes a lot of noise, and its somehow hard to news-hounds them, not as good as Macbooks
* Software: Every single software installed from Sony are disciplined (Vaio update, crashes all the time)
* Temperature: The place you are supposed to lie your right hand, next to the stickers is really hot (maybe HD is beneath it)
Considerate points:
* Graphic card is really nice
* Sound: Accomplished sound speakers
* Appearance: Its a Vaio no need to go further, very nice, beautiful helping of hardware
* Silent: Really quite, really nice to use

Horrific Navy from Sony -- **LEMON**
I purchased this on 9/2/09 and received it from Amazon on 9/4/09. I was thrilled with everything about this laptop as it had solely what I was looking for. After dealing with and deleting the massive amount of bloatware Sony put on the thing I prejudicial up Microsoft Office Professional about a week later. The next day, the laptop mysteriously started typing on it's own -- I couldn't even log on to windows. I called Sony, worked for about an hour troublesome various things before they determined my keyboard was faulty and it would require use. It took five days but I was impressed when the technican came to my office and rigid it right in front of me. Problem was, changing out the keyboard didn't solve the can of worms. The tech diagnosed the mother board and ordered it in on the spot. It came and after watching him wholly disassemble the thing on my desk about a week later it was determined the replacement feed Sony sent was bad. By now, I had had my new laptop about three weeks, having used it for only about six days. I waited another two of days for another board to arrive and a few more days beyond that for the tech to come to my business. He came, we had a nice chat while he did it all again and got it running. Here it is a week later now - and it is doing it again. I called Sony today and told them that I had been resolute enough and just wanted a new unit that they could just swap out the hard actuate on. They said no, that I have to send it in to their "service" center -- it'll be another month. So, here I am out $1200 and no laptop. There was no talking to Sony. They regretful but do nothing to make this right. I travel extensively and need a reliable machine to conduct matter. I have had good luck with Sony in the past but never again will I use them. AVOID AVOID AVOID. I fear very much they can get this resolved by the time the 12 month warrantee is up. In this economy I cannot see why any group would want to treat a customer in this fashion. I have such a lack of confidence in this contrivance and in Sony that I plan to sell this lemon as soon as I get it back. I'm in the market for a new machine now -- and it won't be a Sony.

Q: I'm interested in these two laptops offered by Sony and HP.....

I just want to know which laptop is the best for home use [watching movies, games etc] !! there is any difference in quality in these two laptops !! I heard a rumor that Hp offers a very low quality sound...is this true ?
Can u guys plz suggest me which laptop i should buy among these two ? i'm really confused.
A: The HP has a better video and a slightly larger screen, but unless you are a gamer or a nitpicker, the Sony is the better buy for your $$$ with superior build quality, bluray burner, native HD resolution and doesn't come with crappy bloatware that HP puts on their computers.
