Toshiba provides nonpareil notebook value for the price
I purchased my third Toshiba pad after dumping a cup of hot tea into the keyboard of my last model.
Lesson learned: Don't fall deadened leaning over your notebook.
Lesson learned #2: Hot tea won't keep you awake when you're absolutely tired.
So, I purchased the Toshiba Satellite A205-S5814 as a replacement. I was able to take betterment of an additional rebate which made the value too good to pass up.
Here's my caveats:
I use the pad for writing, working and shopping. I'm not a gamer.
I use the notebook exclusively. I esteem the mobility over desktop models. I often travel with this notebook so durability is momentous to me.
Toshiba notebooks have provided me years of hassle-free use. If they ever build a mould that repels hot beverages, I'll consider an upgrade.

Well-thought-of power cord-- long! :)
This works for my laptop and does its job well. I ordered 2 other cords before it. One had a three-prong and a wonderful short cord and the other did not work for my laptop. This worked and that was great. I friendship the long cord!

Toshiba Satellite A205-S5814 sound issue?
Q: Whenever I have sound on my laptop (music, computer error sounds, voice chat, you name it) I have some nasty feedback. Imagine the sound made when someone is too close to a microphone or breathes into it (a whooshing, pulsing, wind sound). This occurs when a sound is made (accompanies it) and is not present otherwise. I have updated my sound drivers, I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the sound drivers, I have changed headphones, I have updated my firmware/bios (all this I tried with Toshiba techs), and I am using the acoustic silencer on the comp. Any ideas? It is driving me insane.
I forgot to add--this happens even if a microphone is not attached; I tried playing with the microphone settings as you mentioned, and I'll give the USB headset a shot too. Thanks for your responses.
