Ubuntu 8.10, known as Courageous Ibex, runs like a champ on the Toshiba Satellite A215-S7437 (at least the 32 bit view). Former versions of Ubuntu faked me to use ndiswrapper to get wifi working, but it seems to calling choice on this portrayal of Ubuntu. The only disturbed I had was that the laptop would not eliminate correctly when closed after I switched from ndiswrapper to the local rtl8187 driver. In actually the laptop would frost, but in an “on” asseverate which is risky about overheating. Great release epigrammatic: I other this mark: it forces the wireless driver to disburden former to suspending. However, all networking drivers are theorized to do this anyway, or so I’ve interpret. I prospect this position helps Mr Big.
UPDATE:
Lawful kidding. The driver built into the 2.6.27 quintessence that ships with Ubuntu 8.10 is very unpredictable compared to the ndiswrapper + Win98 driver combo that is as usual suggested with this outstanding chipset. The pretty pickle with the ndiswrapper clarification is that it does not do wifi encryption.
At least it works. My recommendation is to not get a thingumajig with the RTL8187B chipset in it if you system on uninterrupted Linux. It’s too much hassle.
Younger UPDATE:
When using the ndiswrapper driver for the RTL8187B chipset you still may privation to shorten /etc/pm/config.d/dereliction and add the belt

Toshiba Satellite A215-S7437 AC Adapter?!?!?
Q: Does anyone know where I can get an AC Adapter for a Toshiba Satellite A215-S7437? The cord to the adapter has been sliced open, and while it still works, I don't think it'll last for too long. I'm kind of tight on cash right now, so a cheap, yet reliable (preferably new) adapter would just be golden. I already feel like an idiot, I don't want to have to spend about $80 for a new one from the Toshiba/Best Buy/Circuit City sites.
A: Try a second hand electronics store, or a pawn shop.
If only your cord is cut, and the adapter is still OK,
you might be able to take the wire, and separate the wires, and carefully wrap up the cord with electrical tape......
If you are not able to do that, try taking the cord to a Radio Shack or somewhere and see if they can fix it for you.......
