...can a Toshiba Satellite A355-S6925 play COD4 without lagging?
Q: here are its specs:
* 2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T6400 processor
* 320 GB hard drive
* 4 GB RAM
* Draft-N Wi-Fi (802.11a/b/g/n)
* Intel GMA X4500MHD graphics (up to 1750 MB shared)
* Windows Vista Home Premium (64-bit)
A: I think it is highly unlikely that your computer would be able to play COD4 without lagging. The Intel GMA X4500HD is a woefully slow graphics adapter that was not designed for gaming. Here is a review of the GMA X4500HD from a reputable website:
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-Graphics-Media-Accelerator-4500MHD-GMA-X4500MHD.9883.0.html
If you scroll through the review there is a value for :Call of Duty 4: 800x600, Standard: 5-15 fps -> not playable". As I am sure you are aware, 25 frames per second (fps) is a minimum to make a game playable. The X4500HD falls short.
The reviewers used standard settings at 800x600. I suspect that if you used low settings and reduced the resolution, you may get a few more fps but not enough to make the game playable.
The amount of RAM that a graphics adapter has is not as important as the speed of the graphics processing unit (GPU). The GMA X4500HD with up to 1750 MB of shared RAM would be slower than a three year old NVIDIA GeForce Go 7600 with only 256 MB of dedicated graphics RAM.
I wish I had better news. If you need more information, please add more details to this question, or feel free to email me through my Yahoo! Answers profile.
Good luck.
