I have a Toshiba Satellite P25-S507 and I'm in need of a new internal hard drive...?
Q: I've been searching all over the internet just to try and figure out what is compatible but nothing looks like what came with my laptop. The only thing I know is that my laptop came with an 60gb Ultra ATA/66 (ATA-5) 4200 rpm hard drive. I can't seem to find anything like it on any sites whatsoever, I went to officedepot and tried out an Ultra ATA-100 but I guess that was wrong so I'm going to return it. The hard drive was too small to fit into the hard drive bay and the pins didn't look like they'd even reach in the first place. Any information, links, etc would be very helpful. Also during my search I found on a website they said IDE (ATA/EIDE/ATAPI) so maybe my laptop will work with one of those types also...even tho the one I tried was an EIDE...but it was for notebooks...maybe I should've tried a normal one? I'm lost at this point tho so any help would be appreciated
Turns out that there was some weird adapter on my original hard drive that I never knew was an adapter and last night while I was at office depot returning the "incompatible" hard drive. I tinkered with my original and noticed that the adapter was where the drive plugs into the computer so...all I had to do was remove the adapter and put it on the "incompatible" and it would've worked fine! I can't UNreturn something so I'm screwed in the end haha. Thanks for your help
A: Laptop hard drives are all standard doesn't matter on the manufacturer or size. the only difference is if it's serial ata or the older parrallel type. The physical connections are completely different. If you could take the laptop hard disk out you'd be able to tell straight away.
